TRAVEL THROWBACK: PARIS IN 15 HOURS

Friday, October 02, 2015

For some reason my friends and I thought it would be a good idea to travel to and from Paris in 24 hours and pack all the sightseeing, shopping, and eating into one long day.
We left by bus from London Victoria Station at 11PM London time to arrive in Paris at 8AM Paris time. The bus ride there was rough. Traveler’s Tip: thoroughly research your transportation choice! We thought that the bus ride would be a nice smooth ride where we could sleep as we go through the channel. Wrong. We didn’t go through the channel, we went on a ferry. A freaky ferry to be precise. The four of us are sleeping peacefully when suddenly we jerk to a halt at about 2AM and told and I quote to “get out”. This was a big ferry with hundreds maybe thousands of people from a bunch of different buses flooding through the doors to nab a nice sitting space. There was music playing quite loudly and people drinking and smoking with lights at there full brightness. I had just gotten comfortable enough to sleep on the bus so now I’m wide awake without a chance in hell of falling asleep and I had full day of site seeing ahead of me. My travel companions slowly started to drift to sleep while I kept watch of our stuff because like I just said there was no way I was falling asleep of that ferry. Eventually, we get back on the bus and have a smooth rest of the journey to Paris.

We arrived in Paris between 7 and 8AM and the first order of business was to see the Eiffel Tower and find food! We figured out the train system pretty fast and were on our way in the direction of the Eiffel Tower. We found a cute patisserie a few blocks away from the Eiffel Tower and ate croissants and jams, which were delicious. After Breakfast we decided to to climb to the top of the Arc de Triumph instead of paying to go to the top of the Eiffel Tower and the view was amazing. After we spent a few minutes at the top of the Arc we made our way down and walked down the Champ Elysees and to the Louvre while stopping for a crepe along the way.

Unfortunately because we decided to see Paris in a day we did not have the time to go inside the Louvre. Traveler’s Tip: you should set aside a day just for the Louvre. We then made our way to the Galeries Lafayette for some window shopping and lunch before heading over to the famous Laduree Bakery for my first macaroon experience. We then travelled over to Notre Dame and Love Lock Bridge before grabbing dinner at the first little place we saw. We had a little time before needing to head back to the bus station so we hurried back to the Eiffel Tower to see it lit up.

By the time we got back to the bus station we were all exhausted and just wanted our beds. The only thing keeping us from a peaceful bus ride home was we had another stint on the freaky ferry. Except this ride was worse. much worse. It was very rough waters and there was seasickness and furniture flying all over the boat. All I could think about was my bed and when I finally got to it I didn’t leave it for a good 7 hours.

While it is absolutely insane to try and see Paris in a day I don’t regret it one bit! I have a lot of good memories from the day.
I hope you enjoyed my reminiscing!
See you soon,
X Emily
